MARPOL Annex VI – NOx compliance when using fuel oils from non-petroleum sources

At MEPC 83, 7th – 11th April 2025, MEPC approved ‘Interim Guidance on the Carriage of Blends of Biofuels and MARPOL Annex I Cargoes by Conventional Bunker Ships’ which will be duly issued as MEPC.1/Circ.917. That Interim Guidance will have the effect, where applied, of increasing from 25% to 30% by volume the maximum blend ratio of biofuel which can be carried by a bunker ship. Over that ratio the provisions of MSC-MEPC.2/ Circ. 17 continue to apply.

Consequently, FOBAS takes this opportunity to provide an update on our Bulletin previously issued 15th August 2022.
